Fundraising For Macmillian At The Manor House, Whickham

A resident at The Manor House care home in Whickham has raised £200 for MacMillan Cancer Support.

Mrs Joan Thackeray, who used to work as a social worker, organised a coffee morning with cakes, raffle and prizes to raise funds for the charity.

Jean And Michelle Take Part In Teesdale Radiothon

Mrs Jean Cusworth, a resident at The Manor House care home in Barnard Castle, and lifestyle coordinator Michelle Buck have been on air for the Radio Teesdale Radiothon.

The Radiothon is the flagship event for the community radio station, raising money to keep it going throughout the year.  The Radiothon is sponsored by local businesses and provides 30 hours of live radio over two days with as many community guests as possible.

Simon Shares Expertise At Care Caterers Forum

Simon Lawrence, executive chef for Hadrian Healthcare Group and winner of this year’s Best Care Cook in the UK award, has given a special demonstration at the National Association of Care Catering annual training and development forum in Blackpool.

The three day forum is the only dedicated learning event for care caterers in the UK, and is specifically designed to address and debate the issues and challenges facing caterers in the care sector.

Smurf The Shetland Pony At The Manor House, Gosforth

A special visit by a Shetland pony delighted both residents and staff at The Manor House in Gosforth, Newcastle recently. 

Smurf, who had travelled from his home in Northumberland, was quite happy to come into the building and ride to the first floor in the lift.

Home Places Care At Top For Elderly Residents

Did you brave the snow and ice to have a look round our brand new care home, Wetherby Manor? Some of my fellow councillors had been up to Barnard Castle to look at the home there when Wetherby Manor was still at the planning stage and they returned with glowing reports, so I was prepared for something out of the ordinary.

I was still bowled over by the interiors and, what to me was the most impressive feature, the warmth and friendliness of the staff and everyone involved with the home.

Simon Lawrence, Hadrian Healthcare Group’s executive chef has won the prestigious title Best Care Cook in the UK at the National Association of Care Catering awards.

Based at the group’s newest luxury care development Wetherby Manor in the centre of Wetherby, Yorkshire, Simon leads the chefs at the group’s nine care homes across the north of England.

Whickham Gold Club Tees Off With Sponsorship

Home's First Lady Celebrates

The first person to move into a Barnard Castle care home has become their first resident to celebrate a 100th birthday.

Annie Atkinson, who lives in the Manor House Care Home, was 100 on May 3. The centenarian, who has three children, 13 grand-children and 15 great grand-children, was the first person to move into the home when it opened in December, 2009.

Research On The Menu

A Northumbria University academic has joined forces with a care home company to analyse and optimise their menus for each season.

Registered nutritionist Carole Marshall is working with Hadrian Healthcare Group in a year-long project led by executive chef Simon Lawrence and operational support manager Karen Brimble.

'Lumberjill' Mrs Neale Goes Back In Time

Mrs Ella Neale is going back in time with volunteers from Groundwork North East in a project to recognise the work of the ‘lumberjills’ during the second world war.

When men working for the Forestry Commission were called up to join the forces in 1939, young women were recruited to fill their jobs through the Women’s Land Army. The specialist Women’s Timber Corp was formed in 1942. They were posted across the country to the working forest areas.

The official opening of Hadrian Healthcare Group’s new £6 million development in Wetherby - Wetherby Manor - took place on Thursday 21 March.

Guests of honour were botanist Dr David Bellamy OBE, Elmet and Rothwell MP Alec Shelbrooke and Wetherby councillor John Procter.

Wetherby Open Weekend 23-24 March

Staff at Wetherby Manor, Hadrian Healthcare Group’s £6 million care development in the centre of Wetherby in Yorkshire, are now preparing to welcome the first residents who move in at the end of the month.

The newly built luxury care home with eight adjacent supported living suites has already attracted a lot of interest and an open weekend is being held on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 March, from 10am to 4pm.

New Manager For The Manor House Gosforth

Pam Gould has been appointed manager at The Manor House care home in Gosforth, part of Hadrian Healthcare Group.

Pam began her career as a registered general nurse at Newcastle General Hospital in 1974, and has worked on wards and in operating theatres in the UK and New Zealand. She is also a qualified social worker specialising in older persons’ care and mental health. Before moving into the care home sector Pam was a staff nurse at St Oswald’s Hospice.

Wetherby Manor Opening March 2013

Construction work is nearing completion at Wetherby Manor, the new £6 million Hadrian Healthcare Group residential nursing care home in Wetherby.

Jas Gill, managing director of Hadrian Healthcare Group said: “The development will create 60 jobs and we will open for residents in March 2013.
